As a lot of you know, my older sister got married about a week or so ago. They got married at the beach, so there was a nautical theme throughout with plenty of seashells, rope, and lanterns to go around. A few months prior to the wedding they had a little engagement party and I really wanted to make them something that they could enjoy and use for the wedding, but also use when the came home! I happened to be in the Habitat for Humanity Restore with my little sister one day and stumbled across some gorgeous cabinet doors. Of course, they had no hardware, but I just imagined it as a chalkboard with some netting and shells draped over it–the perfect gift!
I had never used chalkboard spray before, so I was a little nervous at how things would go, but I covered everything that I didn’t want to get paint on with Frog Tape, used a credit card to really push it down into the tiny sides, and then went to town spraying. I think that one coat would have been enough, but I did another just in case.
It took about fifteen minutes or so for the board to dry completely and then I just really gently pulled all the tape off! The lines were super sharp and I was really happy with how it turned out! I wrote a little note to them with a chalkboard pen and they used it by their cake table to thank the guests for coming to the wedding! I wish that I had some calligraphy talent, but even without super beautiful hand writing, I think it turned out great!
Now that the wedding is done, I think it would be great as a family menu board or for writing prayer requests and Bible verses on! I really wish I would have bought one for myself–I just love how it turned out!
