I don’t know about you guys, but I absolutely love spring fashion! There’s something about finally packing up all of those big heavy sweaters for good, painting my toe nails, and pulling down skirts and sandals! Spring days are full of open windows, sunshine, and adorable clothes! Spring fashion is so fun, especially pastels, so I’m excited to have Liz here with us today to share a few tips on wearing those pastels this season! They are a big trend and I absolutely love her modest fashion sense! Be sure to learn more about Liz and her great blog, Downtown Demure, at the bottom of this post! Also, be sure to stop by and vote for her in the Redbook’s Real Women Style Awards! She’s so beautiful inside and out and it would be so awesome for her to win this contest. You can vote HERE.
Hello, gorgeous readers of A Beautiful Exchange! Liz from Downtown Demure, here. I’m a 26- year old, new-ish Christian (I became a Christian as an adult. You can read my testimony here) who blogs about my two main passions: faith and fashion. As a self-proclaimed “modest fashionista,” I love to provide tips for dressing modestly yet stylishly, and I love figuring out how to translate current fashion trends into outfits that Christian women can actually wear.
One trend that faithfully comes around every spring: pastels. The pastel trend is easy to love, especially on the heels of winter when dreary dark colors prevail. Pastel colors are so light, feminine and fun; but they can easily look a little too Easter-Sunday-gone-wrong when worn incorrectly. If you want to to get in on the pastel fun but you’re afraid you’ll end up looking silly, never fear! In this post I will show you how to wear pastels using simple fashion formulas that are easy to copy.
Double Pastel Goodness
Yes, it is possible to wear to wear multiple pastel colors without looking crazy! If you’re bold enough to try it, be sure to wear pieces with modern silhouettes, like dressy sweatpants and structured boxy tops. Break up the sugary colors by incorporating dark colors, like I did here with my pointy black heels, simple black clutch and white statement necklace. Adding neutral or dark colored pieces is a good way to make your pastels wearable in winter as well (think: light gray sweater + jeans + a pink pastel coat). Side note: black pointy heels are the BEST investment any woman can make. They go with anything and everything, and they make any outfit look chic.
The key to this look is pairing a super sweet, feminine pastel tee with a skirt in a grown-up silhouette, like a pencil skirt. I chose to wear a skirt with analogous colors that are harmonious with my lilac pastel tee (if you need to brush up pin your color theory, this post can help). The result is an adorable outfit that is very much work-appropriate. I like to express my personal style by adding subtle styling tricks, like looping my belt and pushing up my sleeves.
